Volunteers must be 16 years or older to be a Buddee or a part of our Adaptive Biking crew. Children 14 years or older may volunteer with an adult. You do not need prior experience working with individuals with disabilities.

No specialized training or certifications are required. We provide guidance, orientation, and ongoing support to help you feel comfortable and confident in your role.

Great volunteers are present, flexible, and respectful. They understand that everyone engages differently and are comfortable adapting in the moment. A willingness to listen and follow guidance from staff is key.
Getting Started

Volunteer opportunities vary throughout the year and may include:
Serving as a volunteer buddy during programs
Assisting with events or community gatherings
Helping with Buddee Bag assembly and preparation
Supporting behind-the-scenes needs
We’ll work with you to find a role that fits your interests and availability.

Volunteer shifts are structured but relaxed. You’ll receive direction from staff, be paired with participants or tasks, and have flexibility to adapt based on the day. No two shifts look exactly the same.

No. Volunteering is flexible, and there is no required long-term commitment. Some volunteers participate regularly, while others help occasionally or during special events.
Volunteer Roles & Expectations

That’s okay. Staff members are always nearby to offer guidance and answer questions. Volunteers are never expected to know everything—asking for help is encouraged.

Staff will guide next steps, and volunteers are supported in responding calmly and respectfully. Flexibility and understanding are part of the experience.

No. Volunteers do not provide medical care. Staff are responsible for program oversight and safety, and volunteers support participants through presence, encouragement, and assistance as directed.
Working With Participants

Yes. All volunteers complete a waiver before participating. The waiver covers:
Understanding of program activities and associated risks
Expectations for respectful, inclusive behavior
Role boundaries and supervision guidelines
Consent related to photos or videos, when applicable
Agreement to follow staff instructions and safety procedures

Certain roles may require additional screening depending on the nature of the activity. Our team will communicate clearly if any additional steps are needed.
