“B” Part of an Inclusive Finish Line

Through a joyful partnership with Casey’s Clubhouse, Always B Smiling invites you to join us at the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon—not just as spectators, but as active participants in an experience rooted in community, encouragement, and accessibility. Together, we’re creating an opportunity that opens the excitement of race day to more people and reflects what inclusion can look like in action.

This event gives individuals of all abilities the chance to feel the energy of the marathon in a way that’s safe, supported, and celebrated. Surrounded by cheering crowds, high-fives, and teammates who believe in one another, participants experience the pride, connection, and joy that come with crossing the course together.

Our Adaptive Marathon Relay

Instead of running the full marathon traditionally, we participate through an Adaptive Running Relay. This unique format pairs each adaptive athlete with a team of runners who share the 26.2-mile course. One member pushes the adaptive jogging stroller while teammates take turns running sections of the route.

This experience is about more than distance—it’s about inclusion, shared effort, and the joy of crossing the finish line together.

  • Volunteer With Us

We are also recruiting smiling volunteers to help create exciting moments for participants and supporters along the course and at events leading up to race weekend. Volunteers help ensure that everyone feels encouraged and celebrated throughout the experience.

  • Support Our Effort

If you can’t run or volunteer but still want to support the mission, you can make a gift in honor of Bennett or the Pittsburgh Marathon team. Every contribution helps ensure that individuals and families continue to have access to experiences that promote belonging and joy.

  • Questions?

If you have questions about participation, team formation, fundraising, or accessibility, we’re here to help. Whether you’re just getting started or need clarification along the way, our team is happy to walk through details, answer concerns, and make sure you feel confident and prepared.

Why This Matters

For many participants, the marathon represents more than a race—it’s an opportunity to be part of something energizing, communal, and inclusive. It’s a chance to feel the excitement of race day, the encouragement of the crowd, and the pride that comes with crossing the course alongside others.

The adaptive relay format gives individuals who might otherwise be left on the sidelines a meaningful way to participate, allowing them to share in the thrill of the marathon rather than just watch it. Surrounded by teammates, volunteers, and cheering spectators, adaptive athletes experience the joy and connection that make events like this so powerful.
