Kristin is the founder of Always B Smiling, created with her husband Dean in honor of their late son Bennett, whose joyful spirit continues to guide its mission. Bennett changed Kristin’s world, teaching her that true happiness lives in the simplest moments , a smile, belly laughs, time with family, and being surrounded by love.

After Bennett passed, with a large nudge from Dean, Kristin set out to build the kind of community she wished existed throughout their journey. Her previous leadership roles with Pillsbury and Heinz, helped build the foundation needed to thoughtfully develop and grow Always B Smiling.

You will often find Kristin right alongside participants: biking, encouraging, sharing smiles, and quietly witnessing the everyday moments that remind her of Bennett and what he loved.

Always B Smiling is Kristin’s way of honoring Bennett’s life and keeping his spirit alive in the world. She believes Bennett was not only her son, but her greatest teacher, the reason Always B Smiling exists and the inspiration behind everything it represents.

What makes Kristin smile… thinking about Bennett's simple joys in life like throwing me a kiss, dancing to his favorite songs or just snuggling at the end of the night.

Program Director

Erika serves as Program Director at Always B Smiling, where she helps bring programs to life for participants throughout the year. She is dedicated to ensuring each experience is meaningful, supportive, and filled with moments that truly make a difference. What Erika loves most is working directly with participants and seeing firsthand the impact of inclusive opportunities.

Erika is a certified Teacher of the Visually Impaired and a certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist. She previously worked at the Western PA School for Blind Children for eight years in the secondary department, where she focused on preparing students for life beyond graduation. Driven by her passion to support families and expand opportunities, Erika was always searching for meaningful programs, ultimately leading her to Always B Smiling.

Spend a day with Erika, and it quickly becomes clear that this is more than just a job. She brings heart, purpose, and unwavering dedication into everything she does. She feels connected to Kristin, Dean, and Bennett’s legacy, a powerful reminder of the mission behind the work.

What makes Erika smile most is her family, who are the center of her world. They keep her grounded, and constantly remind her to slow down and appreciate life’s moments.

Always B Smiling Mascot

Buddee is a gentle and loving part of Always B Smiling, bringing comfort and calm to everyone she meets. Buddee was meant to be Bennett’s dog, and in the most special way, he chose her name before ever meeting her — BUDDEE. Although they never had the chance to be together, she became the perfect companion for Dean and Kristin and remains a beautiful connection to Bennett’s spirit.

Around B-Town, Buddee can usually be found soaking up the sunshine, joining in a game of catch, or making her rounds to say hello to familiar faces. She thrives on connection and brings a playful energy that helps participants feel more relaxed and engaged.
