Adaptive Bike Rides
Free biking experiences for children, teens and young adults with special needs as well as their families and caregivers.
The biking program at Always B Smiling offers adaptive bike rides to children and young adults that may not be able to ride a bicycle on their own. The adaptive bicycle is powered by a trained volunteer allowing the children to get outdoors and enjoy time with family and friends. The 9-mile ride on the Montour Trail ends with ice cream and a craft activity for the entire family. Family is encouraged to ride along and at least one family member or caretaker must be present.

Always B Smiling is partnering with Fine Art Miracles to offer outdoor therapy with an opportunity to move and have fun.
Fine Art Miracles was founded in 2007 to provide the benefits of creative art therapies and social robotics to people of all ages with a concentration on serving those with special needs. FAM uses fine art lessons, art therapy, music therapy, dance & movement therapy, multi-sensory sessions and FAMbots (social robot enhanced learning), to improve the lives of our participants and their family.
This is an opportunity for the entire family to enjoy activities lead by licensed therapists from Fine Art Miracles. Each weekend will offer a different therapy activity and will end with ice cream for the entire family.

Recruiting Smiling Volunteers !
B Active creates smiles for more than our riders and their families. Our program volunteers leave feeling overjoyed knowing they made an otherwise impossible experience, possible (and get a little exercise in, too)! We are actively recruiting bike pilots and side riders who accompany the family. If biking is not your passion, we also need a hand with the craft activities and the Creative Arts program.
Biking volunteers are required to complete training and a background check. Pilots must be 18 years or older and comfortable using a bike with an electric assist. |
“Next to a leisurely walk I enjoy a spin on my tandem bicycle. It is splendid to feel the wind blowing in my face and the springy motion of my iron steed. The rapid rush through the air gives me a delicious sense of strength and buoyancy, and the exercise makes my pulse dance and my heart sing.”
